The Art of PhotoJournalism
PhotoJournalism
photojournalismTalking about the subject of photojournalism, the first thought that might naturally pop up in someone’s mind is the image of a guy roaming all around the world wearing snazzy clothes with expensive equipment.
That is just how the human mind is conditioned. But when you look at Henri Cartier Bresson- the father of photography, you want to delve deeper into understanding the unique art of photojournalism. Photojournalism is a much deeper part of photography and art.
It is the form of journalism that tells a story through powerful photography. Although it is now associated with almost all colors, actual photojournalism revolves around black and white pictures. It needs to be blatantly truthful and at the same time painstakingly candid so that the message gets across. The level of patience and expertise that one perfect shot needs are impeccable.
Significance
Photojournalism can very well be regarded as one of the most challenging fields of study in photography and plays a huge role in letting people know what is happening globally. From the conflicts in India to the scenes in Korea.
Few Example
From the unrest in Iraq to the mosques in Kabul. From an assassination attempt on a prominent leader to the whereabouts of the celebrity who is currently the talk of the town. From standing in the rain for the perfect shot to travel miles away for it.
Cartier defined photojournalism as “the simultaneous recognition of the significance of an event as well as of the precise organisation of forms in a fraction of a second." While this may sound too scientific, the truth and craft lie in acknowledging it.
